(Boston University) Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine have, for the first time, found that angiotensin receptor blockers -- a particular class of anti-hypertensive medicines -- are associated with a striking decrease in the occurrence and progression of dementia. Data from this study will be presented this weekend at the 2008 International Conference on Alzheimer's disease in Chicago.

Researchers discover gene for branchio-oculo-facial syndrome

(Boston University) In a collaborative effort, researchers from Boston University School of Medicine have discovered that deletions or mutations within the TFAP2A gene result in the distinctive clefting disorder Branchio-Oculo-Facial syndrome. This rare disorder is characterized by specific skin anomalies involving the neck and behind the ear, eye abnormalities, a typical facial appearance, and frequently cleft lip and palate.
