EurekAlert! - Infectious and Emerging Diseases  Sun, 02/13/2011 - 23:00

(University of Utah) The risk of deadly hantavirus outbreaks in people can be predicted months ahead of time by using satellite images to monitor surges in vegetation that boost mouse populations, a University of Utah study says.

The method also might forecast outbreaks of other rodent-borne illnesses worldwide.

Good news and bad for dad this Father's Day

EurekAlert! - Cancer  Sat, 06/13/2009 - 22:00

(University of Utah Health Sciences) It was long believed that conception does not involve equals. The egg is a relatively large biological factory compared with the tiny sperm, which delivers to the egg one copy of the father's genes.

However, a new study from Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah reveals that the father's sperm delivers much more complex genetic material than previously thought.

The findings could lead to a test to help couples deal with infertility.
