(University of Michigan Health System) Head and neck cancer patients who reported lower physical quality of life were more likely to die from their disease, according to a new study from the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The findings could mean that identifying patients with poor quality of life could also identify patients with particularly aggressive tumors.

Researchers at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center have designed a small molecule that is highly effective in cell cultures at inhibiting the interaction between the protein p53 and another protein that inactivates p53 in cancer.

The new molecule is ideal for drug development as it can be given orally as a pill and it appears to be safe for use in animals.
