(American College of Gastroenterology) The American College of Gastroenterology published a new evidence-based systematic review on the management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) as a supplement to The American Journal of Gastroenterology for April 2011, a special issue entirely dedicated to IBD.

This clinical monograph, based on a comprehensive meta-analysis, offers new graded recommendations on medical management of IBD, a chronic digestive disorder which includes Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

(King's College London) Persistent inflammation and the activation of the immune system is the key pathological mechanism affecting many long-term conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, and others.

A group of London-based researchers hope that they will be able to identify biomarkers in the tissue and blood, which in future could be used to diagnose these conditions, to predict how they will develop and how an individual will respond to treatment.


 

American Ginseng Treatment for UC

There is some incredibly positive news on the horizon for suffers of ulcerative colitis (UC), an inflammatory condition with a high risk of colon cancer.

It appears that American ginseng may be the answer awaiting sufferers of the disorder.

In a study preformed by researchers at the University of South Carolina, American ginseng was tested on lab rats, and provided hope that it may not only ease suffering, but that it may in fact both treat the condition and prevent it from ever occurring.
