(Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) With hepatitis B infecting as many as 10 percent of people of Asian descent, operations researchers collaborated with a liver transplant surgeon to develop mathematical models that verified the cost effectiveness of hepatitis B interventions.

These interventions now successfully screen, treat, and vaccinate millions of Asian and Pacific Islander adults in the US and millions of children in China, according to a paper in a journal of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).
