WASHINGTON (MedPage Today) -- If hospitals and clinics can't get 90% of their employees to get an annual flu shot, they should "strongly consider" making the vaccine mandatory, a federal vaccines panel has voted.

(MedPage Today) -- To mark this year's annual National Influenza Vaccination Week, the CDC and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) stressed the importance of getting vaccinated before the holiday travel rush later this month.

Overall, vaccinations have yet to reach the 90 percent level sought by Medicare and Medicaid. In most cases patients go unvaccinated because they refuse the shots, suggesting that for some patients, homes may have to improve how they communicate the benefits of the flu vaccine.

(Muscular Dystrophy Association) Muscular Dystrophy Association has partnered with Walgreens pharmacies to provide flu shots at more than 8,000 locations nationwide for people with neuromuscular diseases.

Families living with neuromuscular diseases should visit MDA's Flu Season Resource Center or call 800-572-1717 to get flu shot vouchers.

The vouchers can be redeemed at Walgreens or Duane Reade pharmacies; or Walgreens Take Care Clinics.
