Mediterranean diet gives longer life

(University of Gothenburg) A Mediterranean diet with large amounts of vegetables and fish gives a longer life. This is the unanimous result of four studies to be published by the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.

Research studies ever since the 1950s have shown that a Mediterranean diet, based on a high consumption of fish and vegetables and a low consumption of animal-based products such as meat and milk, leads to better health.

No major role for fish in the prevention of heart failure

(European Society of Cardiology) The consumption of fish has no major role in the prevention of heart failure, according to results from a large prospective population study.

The study, which was started in 1990 and involved all men and women over the age of 55 living in a suburb of Rotterdam, found no difference in the risk of developing heart failure between those who did eat fish and those who didn't.
