Getting cancer cells to swallow poison

EurekAlert! - Cancer  Sun, 01/08/2012 - 23:00

(Brigham and Women's Hospital) Brigham and Women's Hospital researchers created a drug delivery system that is able to effectively deliver a tremendous amount of chemotherapeutic drugs to prostate cancer cells.

Researchers use nanoparticles to shrink tumors in mice

EurekAlert! - Cancer  Wed, 07/07/2010 - 22:00

(University of California - Los Angeles) A UCLA study demonstrates that nanoparticles can store and deliver chemotherapeutic drugs in vivo and effectively suppress tumors in mice.

Strikingly, these nanoparticles accumulate in tumor after administration. Furthermore, the researchers showed that these nanoparticles are completely excreted from the body.

The findings show promise for further uses of nanoparticles for delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs for cancer therapy.

Kill the cancer, not the patient: New toxicity testing approach ...

EurekAlert! - Cancer  Tue, 11/17/2009 - 23:00

(Jackson Laboratory) With a new two-year, $1 million grant from the National Cancer Institute, Jackson Laboratory Professor Gary Churchill is launching a radical new approach to testing three chemotherapeutic drugs for potential toxic effects, using an outbred mouse population that approximates the genetic diversity observed in human populations.
