Results of the PROFI study reported at TCT 2011

EurekAlert! - Medicine and Health  Thu, 11/10/2011 - 23:00

(Cardiovascular Research Foundation) Results from the PROFI study indicate that the use of a proximal balloon occlusion in carotid artery stenting lead to fewer cerebral ischemic lesions -- a predictor of stroke -- than with the use of a filter.

Trial results were presented today at the 23rd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, sponsored by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation.

(Cardiovascular Research Foundation) Results of the PARTNER Cohort A QOL study demonstrate that transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) results in improved quality of life compared with surgical valve replacement, but only when performed via the transfemoral approach.

The results of the study were presented today at the 23rd annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, sponsored by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation.

(The Medicines Company) Late breaking clinical trial results from testing of cangrelor, an investigational intravenous antiplatelet, showed patients can be "bridged" from the time that their physicians stop their oral antiplatelet drugs until they undergo cardiac surgery.

Study results demonstrated cangrelor maintained target levels of platelet inhibition known to be associated with a low risk of thrombotic events, such as stent thrombosis, vs. placebo.

EurekAlert! - Medicine and Health  Thu, 09/24/2009 - 22:00

(Cardiovascular Research Foundation) Late-breaking data from the landmark HORIZONS-AMI clinical trial, presented at the 21st annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics scientific symposium, demonstrated that after two years, in heart attack patients, the use of a drug-eluting stent (paclitaxel) was safer and more effective than a bare-metal stent; and that the administration of the anticoagulant medication bivalirudin enhanced safety and efficacy compared to the use of heparin + GPIIb/IIIa inhibitors.
