PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- In a Feb. 21 obituary of Dr. Albert M. Kligman, The Associated Press incorrectly described the Tuskeegee syphilis study.

The 40-year study conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service, not Tuskeegee University, did not infect black men with syphilis.

Participants who had syphilis were left untreated so researchers could observe the progression of the disease. Kligman was not involved in the study....
