(Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine) A team of Federal and university scientists reports a breakthrough in the development of an effective therapy against a deadly virus, Hendra virus.

The results of their study, "A Neutralizing Human Monoclonal Antibody Protects African Green Monkeys from Hendra Virus Challenge," will appear in Science Translational Medicine online.

(Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) A duo of monoclonal antibodies -- ipilimumab and bevacizumab -- each targeting a prime survival strategy of tumors, can be safely administered and are potentially more effective than either drug alone for advanced, inoperable melanomas, according to a phase 1 clinical trial led by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute investigators.

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. (MedPage Today) -- The risk of tuberculosis is higher for patients receiving anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF) monoclonal antibody therapy than for those receiving soluble TNF receptor therapy for any indication, French researchers found.
