(Scripps Health) Health care is on the verge of a medical revolution, writes author Dr. Eric Topol in his new book, "The Creative Destruction of Medicine: How the Digital Revolution Will Create Better Health Care" (Basic Books, available in hardcover Feb. 1, 2012).

In his book, Topol introduces medicine's digital future and explores how digitization will fundamentally change the medical field for both professionals and patients.

Smart phones, wireless technology and social networking are fueling this shakeup.
