I am a strong believer in physicians taking leadership roles in HIT, especially physicians with education and expertise crossing medicine and information technology.

An example of such specialists are those with formal medical informatics postdoctoral training, but numerous other examples exist.

My eyebrows were recently raised via reading the patronizing words of a non-medical CIO, Denis Baker, of Sarasota Memorial Hospital, a major medical center on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
